Gregorian – "Practice"

Itchy and shivery, that was the best way to describe the feeling.  Whenever he waited this long his hands always felt itchy and shivery like this.  His whole body rejected the fact that he suppressed himself.  Everything felt like he was covered in wool during the summer.  Gregorian hated wearing wool, whether it was summer or winter.  Wool was a terrible fabric.

Gregorian looked over his shoulder.  No one was there, just like there was no one there twenty seconds ago.  Even though his hands itched and his skin felt like it was coated in static he knew better than the practice with prying eyes.  If anyone saw he would be arrested and then shipped out to the nearest (or perhaps not depending on how the Black Dogs felt about him) Apocrypha.  And once inside one of those prisons…  He shuddered at the thought.  There was still no one behind him, no one to either side, and no one in front of him.  He was fairly well secluded here.  He had picked a good spot this time.

Gregorian took in a deep breath and fanned out his hands beside him.  His fingers tickled and twitched as spindly bright blue arcs of electricity danced around his palms.  Little parlor tricks like these wouldn't assuage the itch for long, but it loosened him up a bit.  A little giggle escaped Gregorian as he allowed the electricity to move up his palms and towards his elbows.

Another deep breath and he slammed his palms together.  His clap sounded like thunder as the electricity burst from his fingertips and darted through the cornfields.  Practicing in the farmlands outside of Ouranos was his best option.  There were hundreds of acres of unused land, filled with wild corn, weeds, and snakes.  The snakes all ran from the lightning and thunder.  They knew better than to come towards Gregorian at this time.

Gregorian laughed to himself and shook out his arms.  It was still terribly difficult for him to create lightning by himself.  It was much easier to control what the sky gave him.  He threw his head back and stared at the black night sky.  Fat grey clouds obscured his view of the stars and the moon.  They weren't perfect clouds, but they could easily be manipulated.

He hesitated and looked over his shoulder again.  Still no one.  It was just him, the sky, and the storm his body was aching for.  Gregorian needed to practice anyways.  It had been almost two months since he let his magic out.  But it was so dangerous here in Ouranos.  The fact that it was a small town made it worse than a big city.  Everyone in Ouranos knew everyone.  If it got out that the new banker from another Region was a magician…  Well, when people riot nothing pretty happened.  Good thing he was alone.  No one to see him and alarm the Black Dogs and no panic.

Gregorian held his arms above his head.  It took him a moment to remember how, but he caught hold of the clouds and forced them to absorb as much water as they could.  They weren't quite in the mood for more water, but he pushed his will into the clouds.  After a bit of wrestling with them (and earning a headache) the damn stubborn collections of air and water finally started to bloat with more water.  About damn time, that itch was getting worse.  Whenever he started using more magic the itch got worse.  There was no winning with magic.  It hurt not to use it and it took its toll when used.  Good thing Gregorian knew a good remedy for magic-related headaches.

A shiver ran over Gregorian's spine.  The clouds were ready.  One water blue eye peered over his shoulder.  Through his messy curly hair he saw that the space behind him was vacant of all life.  He turned his face towards the sky, took in a deep breath, and pulled his arms down with a shout.  The clouds burst open, like a bag of water slashed at the bottom, and poured down all of the water they had collected.  Sheets of heavy rain pelted down from the blackened sky.  Gregorian laughed and spun in a quick circle, dancing in the falling rain.  He loved dancing in the rain.  He loved dancing in mud and he loved storms!  Too bad he was an adult now.  It was so much easier to dance in the rain he was little.

This storm was missing something.  Wind!  He needed wind, lots of it!  Another twirl and the wind followed his movements and burst towards the east.  The high stalks of wild corn groaned as the wind pushed them, trying to blow them over.  Too much wind, it would be conspicuous, he had to slow it down.  Gregorian slowly closed his right hand into a fist and pulled his arm back towards his side.  The wind slowed as he reined it in, letting the corn stand up proud and straight again.

This wasn't enough.  Gregorian needed more.  The itch was getting worse and now his legs were feeling twitchy.  He threw his arms up towards the sky.  He could feel little currents of lightning sleeping behind the clouds.  They needed to wake up.  Gregorian needed lightning, no thunderstorm was complete without it!  Clap, the lightning woke up.  Clap, it started to surge and dart between the opened clouds.  Clap, the lighting roared and burst across the sky.  The world was illuminated for one short moment, the black sky colored purple and white from the sparks of lightning.  Thunder roared and rolled over the empty cornfield (save for Gregorian).

Yes, yes, yes!  This was what Gregorian needed!  The feeling of shivers and itching all over his arms was waning.  He had to get all this magical energy out.  If he didn't he would…he didn't know but it needed out!

Hysterical, perhaps nervous, laughter escaped Gregorian.  He ran forward, clapping his hands, demanding the lightning follow him.  It hissed and raced after his heels.  Thunderstorms were perfect for the itch.  As long as he got it all out now he would be fine for a week—maybe two.  He just had to be careful.  Magicians always had to be careful since magic was illegal.  But he had to practice, he had to keep his skills sharp, and he had to dull the itch.

The thunder roared in frustration as Gregorian deftly outpaced the lightning once more.  Spirits, he wanted this storm to last forever!  But he had forced those clouds open, this storm would only live for a few more minutes.  Quick and dirty, not the best to cure the itch and practice, but it was all he had time for.  Tomorrow he had paperwork to do and a desk to sit in.  Spirits how he hated paperwork!  It was such a stunningly boring task!  Why did he settle for banker?!

Gregorian stopped short, hardly tired enough to be out of breath and only slightly satisfied by this small storm.  He had made bigger ones before.  He threw his arms towards the sky again and tried to see if he could push the clouds to keep raining.  No, they didn't have much left in them.  Autumn was too arid in Ouranos.  He knew he should have moved to the coast, somewhere in the Albatross Region!  Too late now, he supposed.  It would be suspect for him to move after a year in Ouranos, right?

A sad sigh escaped Gregorians lungs and let his arms fall to his sides.  The lightning had escaped his grasp and slipped into its silent state behind the clouds.  The rain was falling slower now, fewer and fewer raindrops fell.  The headache was gone and the itch somewhat satisfied.  The banker looked towards the road where his the beat-up excuse for a truck he borrowed from Old Man Tobias was parked.  No one was there.  Tobias had let Gregorian borrow the machine in good faith, not that Gregorian would damage the vehicle.  He sighed again and dragged himself back to the car.  At least he got some practice done in peace…
Whooo, pumped out another one of these before bed!

Mmm, my ball of Sunshine Greg does love his thunderstorms~ They're his speciality. Too bad he has to keep them tame right now. He doesn't need the Black Dogs finding him. :eyes:

This was a lot of fun to do. I need to play with Greg more. I NEED TO DO SO MUCH WITH THE LIFEWEAVER STORYLINE! Too bad Kings and Fractured Entity are in the way. I'LL GET TO YOU EVENTUALLY, GREG! :dummy:
